THE EIGHT-TRIGRAM PA GUA TALISMAN

The Eight-Trigram Pa Gua Talisman, shown above in small silver

The Eight Trigrams have appeared throughout all of Asian history. They are most commonly seen arranged in a circle around a yin/yang symbol. This is the Pa Gua, the symbol of the Tao (/dow/), meaning 'way'.  Once it adorned the ceremonial robes of the Taoist sorcerers, who also used the symbol in their rituals and as the focus of their meditations.  The symbol is also often used in Feng Shui sorcery to protect a household or bring good luck to an area by placing talismans with the Pa Gua in corners or "unlucky star influence" areas.  Read more about the background of this symbol here:
